The 1965 Corgi Catalogue shows an illustration of the 309 model with spoked wheels. I have wondered for many years whether it actually exists but i have always thought that it would have been a fabulous model and my search for it continues.

The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was issued with spoked (or as I prefer to call them, 'wire' wheels) fitted to both the 303S and 304S models and there is documentation to indicate that release of all three models was planned for December 1964.

With the Aston Martin sales ceasing in 1965 there would not be many around anyway, and I have only encountered three of the Mercedes-Benz in 7 years. But none of the Aston Martin at all.

So I decided to make one. This uses a correct late edition with the closed bonnet vent and the paintwork is pretty good with only minimal signs of wear. The casting on this one is also quite good - many have a poor finish to the surface with lumps here and there. The wheels are of the correct vintage, coming from a Ferrari Berlinetta, and the axles are those originally fitted.

Apart from this change, the car is entirely original with no removal of the base necessary.
